WARDOGS is Coming to Consoles, But There's a Long Wait Ahead

With today’s highly anticipated launch, WARDOGS is hoping to put its unique stamp on the first-person shooter genre that unleashes 100 players in three rival teams against one another to capture a control zone. Among the tactical combat encounters are vehicles and building and destruction mechanics, all taking place across three maps that allow you to play your way.

A unique feature that fuels the WARDOGS gameplay loop is cash. Every teamplay action you perform rewards cash, and with each life you use cash to buy a custom loadout. Since the cash you accumulate persists from match to match, splashing it on improved gear or equipment at the right moment has the chance to completely alter the course of a match.

WARDOGS garnered a lot of attention in its PC pre-release tests, as almost half a million unique players joined the August Closed Beta. Then, the final pre-launch test peaked at 245,118 concurrent players on Steam.

Initially, it was announced that WARDOGS would make its debut in Early Access on PC only via Steam. It has now been confirmed that a console port is on the way, but the wait for XBOX and PlayStation players is a long one.

WARDOGS Announces Console Release Through a Nostalgic Trailer

Ahead of the launch of WARDOGS, the team behind the game released a 'Play Like You Used To' trailer, which is inspired by the iconic Halo 3 ‘Believe’ trailer. According to BULKHEAD, the trailer celebrates an era when multiplayer games were social, unpredictable, and impossible to put down, something WARDOGS will be striving to achieve.

At the end of the trailer, players were informed that WARDOGS would be coming to PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X|S consoles in 2028. The game will not launch on Xbox One or PlayStation 4, which is becoming more common as the old-generation hardware is phased out.

A specific date or launch window has not yet been announced, but since WARDOGS is releasing on Steam in Early Access, the developers may be waiting for version 1.0 to introduce the console player base.

The WARDOGS XBOX and PlayStation store pages are already up, so you can add the game to your wishlist to receive updates about a release date.

A console port is on the way, but the wait for XBOX and PlayStation players is a long one.

On PC alone, WARDOGS has already sold a million copies. In a press release, Joe Brammer, CEO at BULKHEAD, said: “To cross a million copies sold as we launch into Early Access is mental. We've spent the last few months showing people exactly what WARDOGS is, what it isn't, and at one point literally gave everyone ten reasons not to buy it. We didn't want people buying into blind hype. So seeing more than one million people choose to jump in and play the game at Early Access launch means a huge amount to all of us."

Brammer explains that given that "this is still Early Access," there are still "things we want to improve and a lot more we want to build. The best thing players can do now is keep playing, keep telling us what they think and keep giving us those ridiculous WARDOGS moments.”

The Early Access price tag for WARDOGS is $39.99 USD. Instead of charging the full release price before all the major features have gone live, there will be a gradual increase in price as updates roll out.

This means that if you want to get WARDOGS at its lowest price, the earlier you purchase the game on PC, the better. However, it’s likely that this won’t be the case on consoles.

There are plenty of other unanswered questions surrounding WARDOGS on console, including if there will be crossplay between platforms and how well the hardware will be able to handle the ambitious shooter, for example. There’s no doubt that all will become clear when we near the year 2028.
