Ninja Theory Is Set To Close Its Doors As Part Of Xbox’s Latest Wave

Xbox has announced a fresh wave of cuts as part of its efforts to restructure the company, with Ninja Theory confirmed as one of the first casualties as the developer enters consultation ahead of planned studio closure.

“Unfortunately, two separate agreements for Ninja Theory fell through. We will now begin consultation with employees on a proposed closure while continuing to explore other paths forward,” commented Matt Booty, Xbox’s Chief Content Officer. Back in July during the first wave of Xbox layoffs, it was revealed that Ninja Theory had planned to be sold off to an undisclosed buyer, although as per Booty’s comments, these plans have sadly fallen through.

Today, our focus should be on supporting those affected and treating one another with care and respect. I will spend time with our studios over the next week. At our October 6 town hall, we will come together as an All-Xbox team to reflect on our progress and look ahead to one of the strongest game lineups in our history.

Ninja Theory had only recently announced its next project, Senua, during the Xbox Game Showcase back in June 2026. That same month, it was revealed in a report on Game File that Microsoft had already planned to either sell off or shut down the studio by the time it announced the game.
