Capcom announced that the next remake to come out of the Resident Evil universe is going to be Resident Evil: Veronica. Obviously, this is a remake of the beloved Code Veronica title that was released back in 2000.
It has been over 25 years since Claire Redfield was on Rockfort Island, and fans are happy to return, but this isn’t the only Resident Evil remake that has been released, and it won’t be the last of them either, as there are plenty of games in the series.
Fans have no idea what Resident Evil game is next on the list, but there are several that deserve a remake after Code Veronica.
7 Resident Evil 5
Bring Back Multiplayer
Resident Evil 5 Survival Horror Third-Person Shooter Action-Adventure Released March 5, 2009 ESRB m Developer(s) Capcom Publisher(s) Capcom Engine havok, mt framework Genre(s) Survival Horror, Third-Person Shooter, Action-AdventureOne of the Resident Evil games that I personally would love to replay in the modern style is Resident Evil 5. It holds a place in my heart because of the time that my friend and I would spend completing the game. However, I recognize that it isn’t everyone’s favorite, which is why I place it so low on the list.
Capcom sort of dropped the ball with Resident Evil 5, with Sheva — one of the main protagonists — being unmemorable. Chris was also constantly memed for being able to punch boulders.
I think now that the series has become much more action packed, they could bring back Chris and Sheva, add some extra story beats to enhance their characters, and make Resident Evil 5 a solid title.
6 Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
On-Rails Shooter Action
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles Shooter Released November 13, 2007 ESRB m // Blood and Gore, Violence Developer(s) Capcom, Cavia Publisher(s) Capcom Engine id tech 4, open dynamics engine Genre(s) ShooterThere was something special about the Wii era of console gaming, where we got games that nobody really expected. Who remembers Link’s Crossbow Training? Anyway, one game that utilized the Wii’s motion controls was Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles.
This game is an on-rails arcade shooter in the style of other titles like House of the Dead, where you play through various parts of the Resident Evil franchise, shooting your way through the zombie hordes and unlocking different guns along the way.
It was an interesting spin-off, and it saw an HD remaster on the PS3 in 2012, but it would be cool to see this game come back, especially with online multiplayer. It would be nice to get a remake so that we can mindlessly shoot zombies while chatting with friends.
5 Resident Evil Survivor
The Original First-Person Resident Evil
Resident Evil: Survivor Action On-Rails Shooter Released January 27, 2000 ESRB M For Mature 17+ // Animated Blood and Gore, Animated Violence Developer(s) Tose Publisher(s) Capcom Genre(s) Action, On-Rails ShooterResident Evil Survivor is often forgotten about by fans. Many people don’t even know that it existed, as it is often overshadowed by other titles in the franchise, but it is the first time the series decided to use a first-person perspective.
Survivor had numerous problems. For one, it had terrible pacing. Second, the controls were limited, making it an annoyance to play. Also, the loading times were abysmal.
If this game were to be remade, it would give it the spotlight it deserves. Plus, Capcom revisited the idea of a first-person Resident Evil game with more modern titles like Resident Evil 7, Village, and parts of Requiem, so they have plenty of practice to make Survivor an amazing title.
4 Resident Evil Outbreak Files
More Co-op Zombie Fun
Resident Evil: Outbreak Survival Horror Action-Adventure Third-Person Shooter Released December 11, 2003 ESRB m Developer(s) Capcom Publisher(s) Capcom Engine id Tech 3 Genre(s) Survival Horror, Action-Adventure, Third-Person ShooterSpeaking of playing Resident Evil with friends, did you know that you could play Resident Evil Outbreak co-op? If not, it wouldn’t be surprising, as the game was released on the PS2, which wasn’t known for its great multiplayer connectivity.
There are two Resident Evil Outbreak Files, with each of them allowing you to control one of several characters in different scenarios. These were meant to be played with friends, but playing them solo, you had access to some hilariously bad AI partners.
For what it was, Resident Evil Outbreak was an okay experience, but it could have been much better, which is the reason it deserves to be remade. Capcom could combine both files into one game, and modern connectivity would allow people to play together.
3 Resident Evil 6
Add Some Horror
Resident Evil 6 Third-Person Shooter Released October 2, 2012 ESRB M for Mature: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Nudity, Strong Language, Suggestive Themes Developer(s) Capcom Publisher(s) Capcom Engine MT FRamework Genre(s) Third-Person ShooterWhile there are many who don’t like Resident Evil 5, even more people tend to steer away from Resident Evil 6, and it is because many view this game as not being a true Resident Evil title with how much it focused on action over horror.
This tonal shift annoyed fans, and it is easy to see why. However, this mistake could be rectified by doing a complete remake of Resident Evil 6.
Capcom could take the opportunity to rewrite some key parts of the story, add in more horror, and make the game everything that fans wanted it to be rather than a pure action title with little horror elements. It would be a return to form that fans would enjoy.
2 Resident Evil 0
Desperately Needs Updated
Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster Third-Person Shooter Horror Action Released January 19, 2016 ESRB M // Intense Violence, Blood and Gore Developer(s) Capcom Publisher(s) Capcom Genre(s) Third-Person Shooter, Horror, ActionResident Evil has been around for a long time, with the original title being released in the 90s. Years later, Capcom also released Resident Evil 0, which tells the story of Rebecca Chambers, who you may remember from the original title.
She works alongside Billy Coen, and the pair must escape the zombie outbreak. They meet on a transport train, and things immediately go South, as they always do in Resident Evil games.
Switching between the two protagonists was an interesting mechanic, and the characters are some of the best in the series. Plus, RE0 expands the lore of the original game in a great way.
1 Resident Evil
Bring Back the Original
Resident Evil Survival Horror Released April 30, 2002 ESRB Mature 17+ // Blood and Gore, Violence Developer(s) Capcom Production Studio 4 Publisher(s) Capcom Engine MT Framework Genre(s) Survival HorrorI will be fair here in saying that there was technically a remaster or remake of the original Resident Evil game already. The original game was released in 1996, and then it was remastered in 2002.
There is a debate whether the game was remastered or remade, but it retained the same mechanics, but ultimately played and looked better. Despite this remake already existing, it is time that the original game was brought into the modern era.
This is the horror game that started the Resident Evil craze, and it feels like an injustice to leave it rotting in the past like one of the zombies. It deserves to be remade, and it deserves to be expanded on, as it is a relatively short experience.
